Vapour Barriers

Vario Vapour Barrier

Water vapour moves from areas of high pressure to areas of lower pressure, meaning water vapour is constantly attempting to pass through the walls and roof of your building structure. Constant moisture diffusion can cause vapour to condense on cold surfaces within the cavity walls and enclosed structures of the roof, where your insulation is located. When this occurs, moisture damage such as mould, mildew and rot can result.

Protect your home insulation with an airtight Vapour Barrier / moisture retardentTo maximize the lifespan of your home insulation effectiveness and prevent potential damage to the building's structural integrity, Ramstown recommends the Vario Vapour Barrier from Isover. Similar to human skin, the vario vapour barrier is a semi-permeable membrane that alters it's state relative to the level of humidity in the air and in so doing acts as a moisture management system for your timber frame home. As water vapour moves from areas of high pressure to areas of lower pressure, the direction in which it permeates (from outside in or inside out) varies, depending on the time of year. Unlike traditional vapour retarders, Vario increases it permeability
when relative humidity increases allowing moisture to pass through. In this way the summer drying out process is not hindered by your vapour barrier system and your building can breath.

Vario, from Isover is the most advanced airtightness and moisture management system on the timber frame market today. Daltex RoofTX

Vapour Barrier Membrane in Pitched Roof

For the timber roof, Ramstown recommends Daltex RoofTX roofing underlay. Similar to the vario vapour barrier above, Daltex Roof TX is a vapour permeable air barrier that is installed in pitched roofs. Where a Daltex roof barrier is installed alternative forms of roof ventilation are not required.

For the ultimate R.O.I on your insulation, Ramstown Timber Frame now offers an Insulation Adhesive Air-Tightning service. This is an alternative process whereby high performance toxin-free adhesives are used to create an air-tight seal that achieves similar results to those provided by the vapour barrier above. A popular option throughout mainland Europe, Adhesive Air-Tightning has finally arrived in Ireland. For more information please visit our Airtight Insulation page or send your query to us via the contact form.
